Property Stamp duty is a State Government tax payable by the buyer and is calculated on the purchase price of the property. This duty is payable for transferring the title of the property into another name, so is payable regardless of whether finance is required. In Western Australia, First Home Buyers are eligible for significant rebates on stamp duty, and are not required to pay stamp duty for purchases under $500,000.
Stamp duty adds significantly to the cost of buying a property. Find out just how much it will cost in your state or territory.
